Thanksgiving in Your Custom Built Green Home

Posted on 19th November, 2016

TDayWeb300Pix.jpgWe spend most of our blog writing time expanding on the practical, necessary features of our custom built green homes. This time, though, we’re going to do something a little different. We’ve got the holidays fast approaching, and since this is a time to gather with loved ones and celebrate, we’ve decided to share some useful information on doing just that…. something on how to live inside that green home, if you will. With this, we give you the “Get Ready For Thanksgiving Meal” timeline:

The weekend before

~ Clean your home.

~ Gather your recipes.

~ Make your shopping list.

Three days before

~ Buy your groceries (all except salad greens and other quick-perishing produce).

~ Put your turkey in the fridge to defrost.

~ Tidy your home.

Two days before

~  Make your pie dough.

~ Toast/dry your bread for stuffing.

~ Prepare soups and cranberry sauce.

~ Assemble casseroles and store in the fridge uncooked.

The day before

~ Set your table.

~ Bake your pies.

~ Calculate the turkey’s cooking time. This link has a handy chart.

~ Calculate the cooking time of your remaining dishes, and make a list of the appropriate cooking order based on the outcome.

Thanksgiving Morning

~ Prepare the stuffing.

~ Wash, peel, chop vegetables, as necessary.

~ Prepare mashed potatoes (can be reheated just before dinner).

~ If stuffing the turkey, do so now, and put it into the oven based on yesterday’s timing calculation.

While the turkey is cooking

~ Relax for a bit!

~ Make the salad.

~ Set everything out that needs to go into the oven.

While the turkey is resting

~ Foil tent the turkey.

~ If you didn’t stuff the turkey, bake the stuffing.

~ Bake/warm all remaining dishes.

~ Make the gravy.

~ Set all the food out and open the wine.

When Thanksgiving Dinner is ready

~ Pour the wine and enjoy your time with loved ones!
