Solar Reflective Roof Sheathing is Standard in Our Green Homes

Posted on 18th March, 2016

One of the greatest defenses against high summer cooling costs is solar-reflective roof sheathing. You likely know that reducing heat transfer into the home is one of the key methods to maintain a comfortable indoor temperature, and the sheathing does exactly that. This green-living structure is a panel, combining the strength of plywood and efficiency of a reflective foil surface and is typically installed on the roof and exterior wall areas. Studies are showing that the panels block up to 97% of the sun’s radiant energy, keeps your attic approximately 30% cooler. This, in turn, can reduce indoor HVAC costs by over 15%. It is important to note, however, that this is not insulation and cannot be treated as such.

Key features of the solar-reflective roof sheathing include:

  • Easy installation that mimics that of conventional plywood roof sheathing installation.
  • More easily installed in new construction, but is still outstanding for existing homes.
  • It is NAUF (no added urea formaldehyde) certified.
  • Can be FSC certified.
  • Bubble or peeling resistant with superior adhesion.
  • Combinable with many types of insulation materials.
  • Very effective in hot climates and proves reliable.

As always, we are committed to bringing our customers’ dream homes into reality, using the most efficient and economically sound material available. If you have questions on this, or any other standard green feature, we invite you to call or email us at your convenience.
