Have You Prepared Your Custom Green Home For Fall?
Ah, fall…. It’s finally here! The temperatures are starting to tease us with hints of cooler weather, the leaves are changing, and all things pumpkin spice have returned. With a shift in season comes the time to do just a little bit of maintenance to ensure your home is prepared for the next couple of months.
1) Check your windows and doors for gaps or cracks, and seal them tightly to help keep the warm air in and the cold air out.
2) Have your HVAC system serviced by a professional. You want to make sure it’s functioning properly before the cold weather arrives and you’re left shivering indoors.
3) If your home has a gas-fired heater, have that serviced as well.
4) And on that note, if you have a wood stove that heats your home, have it serviced, too.
5) Have a chimney sweep come in to remove any soot or creosote build-up. You don’t want to breathe this stuff, and you certainly don’t want it to start a fire in your home.
6) Have any damaged shingles or leaky vents on your roof repaired, and clean the leaves and debris out of your gutters and drain spouts.
7) Replace the batteries in your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors. Even if you feel like they are still good, replace them. A few dollars is a small price to pay for the safety of you and your family.
8) Reprogram your thermostat to help maintain the climate of your home in the most efficient manner.
